WHY VIDNOVA

Those who protect life deserve a space to restore their own.

Vidnova is a place where defenders of Ukraine can step away from the demands of service, rest, and spend time with themselves and others.

We create space for mental, emotional, and spiritual renewal through care, nature, creativity, movement, and community. We support defenders of Ukraine as they restore their connection with themselves, with others, and with the possibility of life beyond war.

The Program

Vidnova is a one-week recovery program for active-duty service members and veterans of Ukraine.

Set in the mountains at Creative Residence MC6, the program brings together psychological and somatic support, movement and Qigong practices, art and music workshops, and time in nature. Participants stay in an art-filled space overlooking the mountains, where contemporary and local traditional art meet, with comfortable accommodation and thoughtfully prepared meals.

Founded by the community, Vidnova is led by a multidisciplinary team that includes a professional psychologist, a medical Qigong practitioner, a craniosacral therapist, a ceramic artist trained in art therapy, Ukrainian cultural activists, and folk artisans.

Therapy

Participants can take part in group circles led by a professional psychotherapist, with individual sessions also available with a psychologist and a craniosacral therapist. It is a space to talk, listen, reflect, or simply be with others who have had similar experiences.

Together, we explore themes such as facing challenges, supporting one another, moving through loss, communication between civilians and military personnel, returning to civilian life or military duties, relationships within the family, finding meaning in personal and collective experience, and possible paths forward.

Art & Culture

A shared space for creativity, exchange, and connection. Participants explore practices including clay work, candle making, weaving, and music. Many participants are artists themselves, and Vidnova gives them space to reconnect with this part of themselves, share their skills and practices, and lead workshops for others.

The artistic and cultural program is constantly evolving — from concerts, performances created by service members, and dance, to evenings of storytelling, conversations about history and culture, and songs around the fire. For us, culture is about who we are, where we come from, and where we are going. It connects our present with the past and the future.

This shared exchange and active participation are at the heart of Vidnova.

Morning Movement Practices

Every morning begins with Qigong and somatic practices. Through simple movement and breathing, participants can ease tension, reconnect with their bodies, and feel more grounded and present.

These practices offer a chance to slow down, listen inward, and simply be present.

Testimonials

Original participant message in English

“Some of you asked why I fight in Ukraine… I think last week my purpose changed. I’m proud to fight for wonderful, caring people like you… and shoulder to shoulder with warriors like you guys.”

Original message from Oleksandr

“Can I write words of gratitude now? :) I’m on a train to Lviv right now, reading the book Plemya (The Tribe) that I was given, and I keep crying. Today I’m crying, I think, for the first time since 2023, when I first lost my brothers-in-arms. And now, 2.5 years later, I’m crying again. This time it isn’t from loss. It’s because I felt a sense of community again and felt like part of the Tribe again. Exactly like back then, at the start of my service in basic combat training.”

“I’m deeply inspired by each of you. Thank you! In a week I’ll return to service much calmer, because I know that even if I’m wounded or injured, Vidnova is a community for me.”

Oleksandr
Original message from Volodymyr

“May God grant everyone the chance to be at Vidnova.”

Participant, name withheld
Original message from Yaroslav

“I sincerely thank each of you for this shared journey. For the silence in which it felt cozy. For the words that healed. For the glances that said more than a thousand phrases. It wasn’t just time. It was support, strength, and warm presence. We became not just a group but something much bigger: a community of hearts that understand and hold one another.”

“May all the good we lived through together stay with us going forward: in everyday steps, in new decisions, in believing in ourselves. Take care of yourselves and keep shining, because you are incredible!”

I am Daryna, the initiator, co-founder, and guardian of the “Vidnova by Community” project, as well as a manager of sociocultural initiatives at MC6 Creative Residency. I gently accompany the Vidnova project from idea to implementation: I work on program iterations, communicate with participants and partners, care for a space of warmth, trust, and safety both within and beyond the community, and support psychotherapeutic processes and artistic practices.

I have my own artistic identity in visual art and poetry; for me, creativity is an integral part of the process of self-awareness and recovery.

I care deeply about a horizontal plane of trust and the creation of a contemporary Ukrainian community — open, inclusive, one in which we would want to live, the creation of a “common home.” I believe that through the experiences and challenges we encounter in the program, we can grow both personally and as a society.

I’m Olha Sukha, an architect, co-founder of Creative Residence MC6, and co-creator of the Vidnova-Spilno-to-you (“Renewal through Community”) project. For over ten years, I’ve been developing MC6 as a living environment where people, culture, and nature meet. My architectural practice has taught me to see the environment as an integrated system. Space is not just a physical container. It shapes how we feel, how we relate to one another, and our capacity to restore ourselves.

In my work, I bring together people, space, and local context as parts of a single process. For me, creating an environment is about more than function or comfort. It’s about shaping the conditions for safety, belonging, connection, and transformation.

I’m Brett Hill, often known as Brother Hill, a folk singer-songwriter, Qigong teacher, and co-founder of Vidnova-Spilno-to-you, a recovery program for Ukrainian defenders. I first came to Ukraine in 2020 as a traveling musician with the international folk music project Slavalachia.

I perform original and traditional music from North America and Europe, singing songs handed down from my ancestors and writing new ones to pass on to my descendants.

Since 2023, my colleagues at Creative Residence MC6 and I have been running the Vidnova program, where I sing with participants and lead a daily Qigong practice to support their mental, physical, and spiritual recovery. The Qigong program I teach combines ancient Chinese elemental Qigong, Shaolin kung-fu warm-ups, and guided meditation. It helps deepen our sense of grounding, connect the body with its environment, and bring mind and body into full presence.

I’m Inna Falkova. At Vidnova, I work as a psychotherapist. I create space to support mental well-being and nervous-system regulation, so that together we can tend to what needs restoring: bring fragmented parts back into wholeness, rebuild boundaries and sources of support, and take a careful look at what is valuable in life and the meanings that guide us. In this way, we can better understand how and where to move forward, and view the events of our lives from different perspectives.

I work with trauma and post-traumatic growth. Together with you, I facilitate group therapeutic circles, and individual psychotherapy support is also available to each participant.

My work is integrative and includes body-based and somatic practices, modelling of life situations, and art therapy.

I bring professional skills to this work, while remembering that, first and foremost, we meet as one human being with another. Together, we explore how life expresses itself and what may be possible.

I also dedicate part of my time to artistic practice. I love my work.

I’m Yulia Hekhman, a ceramic artist, visual artist, and mindfulness instructor. I love life, people, and the process of creating.

At Vidnova, I lead a clay session where we explore the material through touch, movement, curiosity, and pleasure. There’s no demand to do anything “right” or to produce a particular result.

It’s important to me to create a space where you can slow down, tune in to yourself, play with clay, and simply be in the process.
